I received a couple of copies of your CD "I Hear Music," and that's right: you SURE DO hear some music, lady! The CD is sensational, and you can sing your ---- off. I especially like Chega De Saudade, Early In The Morning, the title track, and A Day In The Life...
I thanked Ron Aprea for making me hip to you. I certainly wish you much continued success, Happy Holidays and a great New Year. It's a delight to hear someone so musical. I hope we can meet one another sometime during 2007. Carry on witcha' ba-ad self.
Yours in Jazz, Frank Foster - composer ("Shiny Stockings", "Blues in Hoss' Flat") and saxophonist with the Count Basie Orchestra.
"Along with a solid Jobim classic, (Chega De Saudade) Meegan Coleman's "I Hear Music" is a tribute to the Great American Songbook. Accompanied by strong arrangements and first rate players, Ms. Coleman captures the essence of some of the best of the standards. Whether ballads (Mercer's P.S. I Love You) or up tunes (They All Laughed), Meegan's artistry cuts through loud and clear." - Carl Strommen, world renowned composer and arranger.
“It's not often in this day and age that we run across young talent that understands the pure meaning of jazz. I've had the pleasure and honor to listen to, arrange for, and become friends with Meegan Coleman. Meegan sings in the tradition of Sarah Vaughan, Ella, and Carmen McRae, yet retains her own identity. Her diction, pitch, phrasing and her ability to improvise on chord changes makes her a complete package. And she delivers the lyric with conviction and believability.” - Ron Aprea, award winning composer, arranger, and saxophonist.
A native New Yorker, Meegan began playing piano at the tender age of five. Melodies that floated through the air were soon interpreted through her fingers. Early recognition of Meegan’s budding musicianship led to frequent gigs as an accompanist and musical director throughout Long Island. Realizing that singing was the ultimate form of satiating self-expression, Meegan took her precocious talents to various local theatres and restaurants to provide entertainment in an old style with new treatments. “I just wanted people to relive that era of the lounge singer; that sultry ‘lay back, relax, take in the atmosphere’ vibe.”
Meegan earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education at the Hartt School of Music and her Master’s in Music History at Long Island University.

Meegan has four arrangements published with Carl Fischer - "Old Dan Tucker", "American Ladies of Song", "Eliyahu Hanavi", and "TAPS". As a music educator for over 10 years, Meegan thoroughly understands the importance of the arts in everyone’s daily routine. To be able to share that gift with others and communicate that emotion is one of the most beneficial endeavors she has ever pursued.
“It’s funny because around these parts, I’m known as a pianist. 95% of the time, you’ll see me sitting at a keyboard. But I’m a singer. My passion lies in singing. Playing the piano is not a challenge to me, singing is. Everything around you affects your outcome, but that’s when you turn that labyrinth of human emotion into that unspoken connection between musician and listener. Whatever obstacles are thrown in your path, (and for me, there’s been enough for two lifetimes already!), it only makes you stronger and better able to link your experiences to others. I am truly grateful for what I have encountered and experienced thus far; it’s like one big jigsaw puzzle that has yet to be completed. Thank you for being part of that puzzle.” - Meegan
